Bodrum - South Aegean (Greek) Islands
Day 1: BODRUM
Our boat opens its doors to an unforgettable week at 03.30 pm. If you come to Bodrum before boarding time, you can leave your belongings to our office with peace of mind. Our boat will stay anchored in the port for the first night so that you and your guests can explore the historical city of Bodrum both before and after dinner. Bodrum, also known as Halicarnassus, has been a remarkable and important city throughout human history; Bodrum is also the birthplace of the historian Herodotus, the author of the Iliad & Odysseia epics.
Here are the must-see symbols of the city:
- Halicarnassus Mausoleum (350 BC), one of the Seven Wonders of the World,
- The iconic St. Peter’s Castle built in the 14th century by the Knights of Rhodes,
- Bodrum Underwater Archeology Museum, the world’s largest underwater archeology museum,
- Amphitheater with a capacity of 13,000 visitors, which still hosts concerts!
With its white houses decorated with bougainvillea and colorful gift shops, Bodrum is a paradise on the Aegean coast! Getting a MuseumCard before you start your trip will make it easier to visit the ruins. It can be obtained from the entrance of the castle.
Day 2: KOS
On the second day, during breakfast, a general information about Bodrum’s Northern Islands route will be given by the captain. Before starting your week in the Greek Islands, the paperwork at customs will be completed and we will set out for Kos, the first stop of our route. Kos is the third largest of the Dodecanase Islands after Rhodes and Karpathos and covers an area of 283 km2.
Kos Island is also known as “Hospital Island”. The reason for this is that Hippocrates, an important name in medical science, was born here. In fact, it is rumored that the old plane tree in the middle of the island was planted by Hippocrates, and you will often hear its name in the souvenir shops that you will come across step by step. Other places to visit are; Defterdar Mosque, Paraskevi Church, the Casa Romana region, which shows the wealth of the people of Kos in the Roman period, and the ancient-Agora District, where you can see the ruins from the historical Hellenic period to the middle ages. There is also an airport on the island. The delicious appetizer restaurants in the Old Marina are quite famous.
Day 3: GYALI - NISYROS
In the morning, we will move to Gyali Island and a swimming break will be given. There is no settlement on this island, but it has been brought into the economy with the pumice stone and volcanic soil extracted. Later, the route is turned to Nisyros Island, also known as Incirli. Nisyros is famous for its active volcano, which last exploded in 1422, and the village of Nikea, built on the mountain slope. The village is very convenient for visiting with its shady walking areas and mosaic square, and there are various cafes for those who want to taste Greek coffee and various world coffee. If you like the white streets smelling of jasmine and a quiet life routine, this is the place for you! Wouldn’t you like to listen to Greek music played softly in every corner, drink ouzo or wine while watching the sunset? Nisyros is a corner of paradise in the Aegean with its stunning beauty.
Day 4: SYMI
In the early hours, we will move to Symi Island and take the first stop at Panormitis Monastery in the south of the island. The monastery, where the priests still live, contains Byzantine frescoes and various carvings. There are also two museums and a library with post-Byzantine manuscripts. Its construction dates back to the 18th century. In addition, the monastery is a very important pilgrimage place for the Orthodox world. For a swimming break, we will go to the east coast of the island, and time will be left until evening. Those who wish can then visit the neighborhoods that reflect the Roman-Byzantine-Ottoman period, and see the traces of the neo-classical period. Sömbeki, in Greek name Symi, takes its name from the fairy Syme, the wife of the sea god Poseidon in mythology.
Day 5: RHODES
Also known as the Island of the Knights, Rhodes has the largest area of the 12 Islands. The cities of Rhodes, Lindos, and Kamiros are prominent destinations. The nostalgic island, where you will be teleported back in time while wandering its streets, is still surrounded by 12-meter walls. It was dominated by Rome, Byzantine, Ottoman, Italy, and Greece respectively, you can see a trace of all civilizations on your walks. Due to the Grand Master’s Palace, baths, bastions, and castle ruins in the old city, Rhodes was completely included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988. The Orthodox Church of Rhodes is now open to visitors as the Byzantine Museum. You can visit the Aquarium, one of the most important marine research centers in Greece, and take a closer look at the underwater ecosystem. If you want, you will also have the opportunity to see the famous nightlife of Rhodes, there are many bars and traditional Greek taverns on the beach of the island. Especially in Hippocrates Square in the center of the island, you can see many different music genres together and quickly find a venue that suits your personal taste.
Day 6: DATCA - PALAMUTBUKU - KNIDOS (CNIDUS)
After breakfast, we will anchor in Datca town, which is the main town of Datca Peninsula. Datca is a modern and charming fishing town. You can find many seaside fish restaurants and gift shops on the streets parallel to the marina. When you walk into the city, you will see the cafes and live music in various concepts. The town has three beaches, you can lie down to the beach and taste fresh almonds on ice while sipping your cold beer. Here’s a tip for gourmet travelers; The Datca Peninsula is famous for its honey, almonds (the best in the world), sea-food (fish). Prepare yourself for the Aegean cuisine to be set on a table by the sea and honey-almond ice creams made by goat milk right after dinner! If you are allergic to almonds there are lots of various ice cream flavors too. No worries and keep enjoying your time!
The next stop is Palamutbuku beach, where the turquoise blue sea meets cedar trees...When the midday sun starts to go down, you can leave yourself to cool waters and enjoy the Datca Peninsula. Palamutbuku was also a very important and strategic region for the city of Cnidus in ancient times.
As the last stop, we set out to the house of Aphrodite of Cnidus, known as the world’s first nude woman statue, and the majestic Lion of Cnidus exhibited in the British Museum. Another importance of Cnidus, which is a Carian city, is that it was established at the point where the Aegean and the Mediterranean seas meet. On one side of the walking area you will see the commercial harbor as calm as possible, and on the other side (military port) the dance of the waves that keep the old enemies of the city away. Here you can see the ruins of the Agora, the temples of Dionysus, the god of wine and entertainment, the muse and the beauty goddess Aphrodite, and the greatest sundial of its time (around 360 BC). Cnidus is a city that has raised great artists and architects; and is the birthplace of Sosratus, the architect of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Visitors who would like to try different alcoholic beverages can taste “Knidos Beer” from the restaurant located at the entrance of the ancient city. Overnight and dinner are in a bay near this beautiful city.
Day 7: ORAK ISLAND - POYRAZ HARBOR
Orak Island is a paradise near Bodrum, famous for its olive groves and rabbits. The island, mostly visited for underwater sports, welcomes visitors with its crystal blue water. The island is the place where we will have our first swimming break until the lunch. After lunch, the boat will be anchored in Poyraz Harbor. The last swimming break of the trip is here. Welcoming you with its crystal-colored waters, Poyraz is a very popular place for diving enthusiasts. Optionally, dinner and the last overnight stay will be held in Bodrum Harbor or in a bay close to Bodrum.
Day 8: BODRUM
The route ends at 09:30 in the morning, after the breakfast.
The route mentioned above is not fixed, the group can decide where to stay, where to swim and where to go; or the route may be changed according to the weather circumstances. We wish everyone a relaxing and adventurous holiday.
